From the Desk of Ken Atherton, Assistant Pastor
It is always such a blessing when someone comes in and
says, "I see a need in the church and here’s what I plan to do about
it." A few months ago I got a call from some members of one of our Sunday
School classes. They had seen a need in the church and they planned to solve
the problem. The church was blessed by their plan. As Paul Harvey says,
"Here’s the rest of the story …"
The Mary & Martha
Sunday School Class (Adult 3, under the direction of Fran Nicholson and LaVerne
Langston, sensed a need for matching coat hangers throughout our church.
They contacted J.C. Penney’s who donated 554 hangers and Famous Barr who
donated 215. After a call to Lee Rowan, trying to find a source for gold guest
hangers for the front foyer, LaVerne shared with their representative a
desire to place matching hangers throughout the church. The Lee Rowan
representative suggested wooden hangers for all areas except the foyer,
offering to donate them to the church. When asked how many we needed, he was
told that 300 wooden and 75 gold guest hangers would be most generous. LaVerne
and Dick Langston picked them up and discovered the order had been
doubled. The Langstons immediately contacted the company, thinking it
had made a mistake. The company wanted the church to have all of them, making a
grand total of more than 1500 hangers!
The ladies in Dorthe
White’s Sunday School class funded the purchase of the gold labels and
other supplies.
The ladies are in the
process of donating the excess hangers to the three Baptist Homes for the Aged,
Missouri Baptist Children’s Home, the Bridgeton Community Center, etc.
Thank You to a Sunday School class who saw a need and moved to meet
it. The church has been blessed.
